1
Targeted 23:00-06:00 curfews in two Paris zones and in Lyon produced the first quiet night since the weekend.
The authorities imposed curfews in two Paris zones and in Lyon, and this produced the first quiet night since the weekend.——意思一样,但长了一截。
produced 是动词 produce 的过去式,读 /prəˈdjuːst/,意思是“带来、产生(结果)”,英文解释是 to cause something to happen or exist。
produce results(产生结果)
produce evidence(拿出证据)
produce a reaction(引起反应)
Cheaper batteries have produced a boom in electric bikes.
A night of heavy rain produced the first real autumn chill in the city.
Without Sansa, you won't be able to produce an heir.
produce an heir 与文中 produced the first quiet night 有异曲同工之妙:都是“把某个结果带出来”。
That's why Hayden's expedition aimed to produce a fuller understanding of the Yellowstone River region, from its hot springs and waterfalls to its variety of flora and fauna.

The interior ministry counts almost 2,400 arrests and nearly 1,000 injured officers; the justice minister put custody above 2,500 by Monday evening.
算进总数”,英文解释是 to include something when you calculate a total。
count the cost(计算代价)
count sb among(把某人算作……)
count towards(计入……)
The survey counts gig workers among the newly insured.
By the first weekend, the fair counts more than 30,000 exhibitors and 86,000 overseas buyers.
9,300, not counting sailors.
And so, the Middle East excepted, Europe is the most monarch-infested region in the world, with 10 kingdoms (not counting Vatican City and Andorra).
以上”,英文解释是 to state that a number is higher than a particular level。
put the figure above 2,500(把数字定在 2500 以上)
put sth above sth(把……
put safety above all(安全高于一切)
The value of the two watches was put above 670,000 yuan.
3
At least 3,000 businesses were hit, with damage in the hundreds of millions of euros.
短句,两个信息点:were hit(受冲击)和 with damage in the hundreds of millions of euros(损失数以亿计)。

PM Sebastien Lecornu promises a "massive" deployment for Saturday and has not ruled out a state of emergency.
一句话里两个动作、两种口气:promises 是承诺,has not ruled out 是“没把话说死”。has not ruled out
rule out 是动词短语,读 /ruːl ˈaʊt/,意思是“排除、不予考虑”,英文解释是 to decide that something is not possible or will not happen。
rule out the possibility(排除可能性)
rule out a deal(排除达成协议的可能)
not rule out doing sth(不排除做某事)
文中 has not ruled out a state of emergency 的意思是:没有排除宣布紧急状态的可能。
The new rules rule out any “voluntary waiver” of social insurance.
I wouldn't be so quick to rule out a more viable career.
Doctors have excluded “empty stomach” from the rules for blood donors.
Apple has not dismissed the rumour that the 2027 iPhone will skip 19 and be called iPhone 20.
3)discount:
You can't discount the pull of a fresh naan.
